Bulk Rice Procurement: Packaging, Containers and Documentation Basics

Packaging. Bulk rice is commonly exported in 25 kg or 50 kg polypropylene (PP) bags. Retail programs may use 5 kg or 10 kg consumer packs, and private-label printing on bags is widely available subject to artwork approval. Jute and non-woven fabric bags are used for premium positioning.

Container loading. Rice ships in full container loads (FCL), typically 20 ft or 40 ft dry containers. A 20 ft container generally accommodates around 25–27 MT of bagged rice depending on bag size and stacking, but exact loading should always be confirmed with the supplier for your packing specification.

Incoterms. FOB means the buyer arranges and pays ocean freight; CFR and CIF include freight to the destination port (CIF additionally includes insurance). Choose based on your freight relationships and risk preference.

Documentation. A standard rice export set includes the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin and phytosanitary certificate. Some destinations require additional certificates or registration of the exporter — confirm destination-country requirements before shipment.

Payment and timelines. Terms such as advance-plus-balance are common in Indian agri trade, and processing/packing lead times are typically quoted in working days after order confirmation. GN Agro Traders confirms commercial terms and timelines per enquiry.
