India exports several recognised Basmati varieties, each with its own grain character and price positioning. For importers, choosing the right variety is usually the first commercial decision in a rice program.
1121 Basmati is the most widely traded extra-long-grain variety. It is available in Raw, Steam and Sella (parboiled) processing, which makes it suitable for markets with different cooking preferences — from the Gulf to East Africa and Europe.
1509 Basmati is a younger, shorter-duration crop variety. It offers long grain at a more competitive price point than 1121 and is popular for value-oriented retail and food-service programs.
1718 and 1401 are improved varieties widely offered by Indian exporters for bulk programs. Exact grain length, moisture and broken percentage are lot-specific and should always be confirmed against a pre-shipment sample rather than assumed from the variety name.
Traditional Basmati — the classic aged variety from the original Basmati belt — carries the characteristic aroma and elongation on cooking that the name Basmati was built on. It is typically positioned at the premium end.
Regardless of variety, serious buyers confirm specifications through samples and, where volumes justify it, independent pre-shipment inspection. GN Agro Traders supports sample-based approvals and coordinates third-party inspection on request.
